Obituary of Mary Joan Provost-McGregor

Chicopee-Mary Joan Provost-McGregor, 80, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 12, 2024. Born September 25, 1943 in Portland, ME, Joan was the daughter of Edgar Edward Joseph Dubuc and Ruth Alice (Tompkins) Grindell. Joan has lived in Chicopee since 1971, previously raising her family in W.Springfield. She was a licensed hairdresser and cosmetologist from Kay-Harvey Hair Design Academy in 1977. She owned and operated Joni's Hair Options in Chicopee along with working in various local salons and retired in 2019 from Providence Place. Joni was also a past member of the former James W. Hannum chapter 150 OES in Ludlow. She also enjoyed time reading, shopping and RVing. The warm summer sun and sandy beaches also brought her much enjoyment as well as watching the Daytona 500. Her cooking was legendary and visits to SC with her sister and brother were special times. Above all, Joni's love and dedication was to her family. She was predeceased by her first husband, A.Leo Provost, Sr. in 1990 and her second husband, James McGregor in 2012. Her love and memory will be forever cherished by her two children, Tammy Roy and her husband, Kenneth of Chicopee as well as A.Leo Provost, Jr and his wife Lisa of Ludlow. Seven grandchildren, James Provost, Heather Provost, Kourtney Roy, Spencer Provost, Kimberlee Roy, Alexis Provost, and Jared Provost as well as a great grandchild, Carter Silk also survive her. Joni was the eldest of six children, Dee Fullerton and husband Mark of Spartanburg, SC, Cecil Pullen and wife Laurie of Boiling Springs, SC, Doris Jones and husband Joe of Wallingford, CT, Pamela D'Amico and husband Ralph of Chicopee will also dearly miss her. Her brother, Robert Dubuc predeceased her. A visitation will be Sunday, March 17 from 3-6pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home with a funeral Mass Monday at 11 am at St Anne's Church in Chicopee. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery-W.Springfield. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home between 9:30-10am on Monday to proceed to the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either Shriners Children's New England, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Cancer House of Hope, 1999 Westfield St., W.Springfield, MA 01089.
