Obituary of Charles E. Smith

"Brimfield- Charles E. Smith, Jr., 60, of Haynes Hill Rd. passed away suddenly February 9, 2007. Born October 16, 1946, in Holyoke, he was the son of Loretta (Pelletin) of Wales and the late Charles, Sr. Charlie has lived in Brimfield for the past 20 years, previously residing in Windsor Locks, CT. Retiring in August of 2006, Charlie worked for 35 years as a transport driver for Wonder Bread and proudly drove over three million miles accident-free. Charlie was the drummer for the group, The Wonderer’s, which was a band known throughout New England. Besides his mother Loretta, Charlie will be greatly missed by his wife Jean (Ripolone) of 42 years, and children Shelley and her husband Don Lockwood of Palmer, Charles III and his wife Pam Smith, James and his wife Amanda Smith, Glenn and his wife Angela Smith all of Wales. Charlie also is survived by a brother Joseph (Jack) Smith of Wales, grandchildren Courtney Lockwood, Alexandra, Jillian, Glenn Jr., Tyler, and Damian Smith along with mother-in-law Mary Ripolone and sister-in-laws, Mary Ann and her husband Edward Turner, Carol and her husband Paul Person, and brother-in-law Mark and his wife Denise Ripolone. Charlie leaves his faithful companions, his two dogs Chevy and Daisy Mae as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in Brimfield Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. "
