On September 29 2006 time stopped to pause for a great friend, someone that I cared deeply for and in fact loved very much. Doug is the kindest most caring person who kept nothing for himself but would give you all that he did have if you needed it. What did he ask for in return? A caring voice to hear him when the days weren't what he'd hoped or longer than he wished. I have his shoes and they will sit at the entry way to my home because he was and will always be welcome here. He brought laughter from tears; he could make you laugh even when you didn't want to and let you know that everything was going to get better even if he didn't beleive it. Somehow he would find a way to make everything allright. Doug loved his family and his mother and was the best friend you could ever ask for. His heart was always honest and he did his best every day of his life. He left our family with happy memories and attributes to aspire to. He loved our children and would have made any child lucky to have him for a parent. How unfortunate that someone so good could be gone from us. Walks to the baseball field, miniature golf, making model cars, camping, aquarium, six flags, zoo's and parks...he was our "uncle Ducky" and anything was possible when he was around... So big and intimidating and so soft and welcoming to my children. I spoke with him that morning to make plans for the weekend. We were going to take the children to the "haunted hayride". I would never have imagined that he wouldn't be on the phone..or on his way ever again. I knew how much he loved us...I hope he knew how much we loved him back. I think he will watch over us and hope that we will be better for knowing him and I hope that we will. He became a part of my family and was a part of our hearts. I will miss Doug everyday of my life. How lucky we are to have known him. How lonely I will be without him to listen and me to hear him back. "Doug was a bright star in an otherwise dim sky" We love you "Uncle Duckie" Gene, Kim, Josh and Emma

How unbelievable that this has happened. I don't think that it has really hit us yet... You were not just my brother-in-law... in my heart you were my "brother". And in my mind's eye, when I see your face, it is with bright eyes and a devilish smile. I watched you use that "magic" on the ones who loved you, especially your mother and Louise, and it usually worked in your favor. I thank you for trusting me enough to share your adult, personal life, and I will value those conversations forever. Telling eachother that we loved eachother a couple of months ago seems especially important now. I also can't thank you enough for the love, kindness and attention that you always gave to all of my children, but espeically to Jon, your friend and softball partner who felt more like your brother than a nephew, and Emily, your Godaughter. She really appreciated that you always remembered to call her, including after she moved to Boston. You have left all of my children with wonderful memories, memories that they will always cherish. Just yesterday, Frankie was talking about when you took him miniature golfing this summer. Again, my most humble thanks to you. Our long phone conversation the night before you left us has played over and over again in my mind. You must have said three times "I just called to say hi", and I guess that it really was a call to say "goodbye", though neither of us knew it at the time. How glad I am that you called. Until I see you again my "brother", farewell...

Louise, I would like to send my condolences to you and your family. I know how much Doug ment to you. Doug was always very charming and had a great sense of humor. I know he will be sadly missed. I'm free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took his hand when I heard his call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play, tasks left undone must stay that way. If my parting has left a void in your hearts, fill it with remembered joys, a laugh, a kiss, oh, yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrows, For I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's full, I savored much Good friends, good times, ones I touched. Perhaps my times seems all to brief, don't lengthen it now with undo grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. God wants me now, He has set me free!

There aren't too many people in this world who I'm grtaefull to have met,but Doug is definately one of them. I met Doug several years ago through a mutual friend, and instantly hit it off!! He was always smiling, and that smile touched all that knew him. I will never forget the days and nights spent playing hockey and other activities that were shared with Doug. Doug was my uncle he was full of excitement and fun. I will remember him as always being so caring to his nieces and nephews and would do anything for us. I will miss the family pictures that all the siblings always take when their together and I will miss his presence when I visit my aunt in MA. He was a great guy and I was proud to have a uncle like that. Thank you to all that were so king to my mother Karen and to all my aunts and uncles who have lost their brother and especially to my grandmother Laura who will need the support the most. Hi Uncle Doug I miss you. I am sitting here looking at your picture and I think back when we had our family get togethers and the picnics at Aunt Louise's house. My favorite memory was at my wedding. We have a great picture of us dancing together. Its my favorite one. Well I hope you know how much we all miss you. Love always Jen
