Obituary of Douglas W. Shields

"Indian Orchard- Douglas W. Shields, 38, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on September 29, 2006. Born April 12, 1968, he is the son of Laura (Grimshaw) Shields of Palmer and the late Richard R. Shields, Sr. Doug graduated from Ludlow High School and went on to NETTS tractor trailer truck driving school. He was a truck driver for Vickers Oil for the past couple of years. Doug has lived in Indian Orchard for the past year with his uncle James Shields, Sr., previously they both resided with in Chicopee for many years. He was the captain of RJ Towing softball team and also enjoyed cards at the Open Door in Ludlow, darts and was an avid sports fan of the Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He will be greatly missed by his mother and eight siblings, Karen Joyal and her husband Frank of Moorseville, NC, Fred Shields of W.Springfield, Cheryl Atkins and her husband Jack of Sherrills Ford, NC, Richard Shields, Jr. of Denver, NC, Louise Perry and her husband Richard of Thorndike, Kenneth Shields and his wife Nadine of Pinellas Park, FL, Patricia LeClaire and her husband David of Mooresville, NC, and David Shields and his wife Lisa of Albermarle, NC. Doug also leaves many nieces and nephews along with numerous close friends. A visitation and pictorial video tribute will be held Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N.Main St. (Rte 20). A memorial graveside service will follow on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Indian Orchard.
